Kolkata, March 4 -- The office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), West Bengal, on Wednesday rebutted allegations made by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) over alleged disproportionate assets of a senior official's wife, triggering a fresh political slugfest in the Assembly poll-bound state.

In a post on its official handle, the CEO's office tagged TMC leader and state minister Chandrima Bhattacharya, along with the Commission spokesperson, countering claims regarding the financial background of the top official.

The post stated that the top official's wife had been the owner of her property even before her marriage and had been regularly filing her income tax returns since 1983.
