Malda, Oct. 6 -- The BJP on Tuesday took control of the Malda Zilla Parishad in a significant political development in the district following the change of guard in West Bengal.

When the Zilla Parishad board was originally formed by the Trinamool Congress after the last three-tier panchayat elections, the BJP had only four elected members. On Tuesday, however, BJP leader and elected Zilla Parishad member from the Habibpur Assembly segment, Dipali Bala, was elected Sabhadhipati unopposed, with no other candidate proposed for the post.
