Krishnagar, June 10 -- Former West Bengal minister and Trinamool Congress MLA from Krishnagar South, Ujjal Biswas, was on Wednesday remanded to six days' police custody by a local court, less than 24 hours after police rescued him from an irate mob that stormed his residence over allegations of hoarding and siphoning off government relief materials.
Biswas, who was physically assaulted, heckled and pelted with eggs during Tuesday's dramatic confrontation, was formally arrested by Kotwali police after the recovery of a large stock of tarpaulin sheets, clothes and white sarees allegedly meant for distribution among poor and disaster-hit families.
