Basirhat (West Bengal), June 17 -- Shahnur Mondal, the food supplies official of the North 24-Parganas Zilla Parishad in West Bengaland a prominent Trinamool Congress leader, was arrested on multiple charges, including land grabbing and extortion, on Wednesday.
He was produced before the Basirhat Sub-Divisional Court and subsequently remanded to police custody. Mondal's arrest comes amid a series of allegations against him, including land grabbing, post-poll violence, extortion, illegal river filling, construction of resorts and parks on encroached land, and involvement in cross-border smuggling activities.
