Siliguri, Sept. 6 -- Authorities in West Bengal have sounded a precautionary alert in areas along the Teesta following a rise in the river's water level, even as Sikkim remains on alert after a landslide partially blocked the Teesta and Chyakong rivers at their confluence.
Officials said the rise in the Teesta in West Bengal is not being attributed to the landslide in Sikkim. However, as a precautionary measure, people living close to the river have been advised to remain alert, keep a close watch on the situation and stay prepared to move to safer locations if required.
The water-management system is also being maintained scientifically to create adequate space for any possible additional flow from the upper catchment.
