Kolkata, May 29 -- One person died as a powerful spell of thunderstorm accompanied by heavy rains and gusty winds lashed Kolkata and several districts of southern West Bengal on Friday, disrupting normal life, affecting flight, metro and train services and uprooting trees.
A man was electrocuted in the Prinsep Ghat-Babughat area during the storm when he went to collect mangoes beneath a mango tree. A large branch snapped and fell on him, causing severe head injuries. The broken branch reportedly fell on overhead electric wires, sparking a fire in the area. The victim was rescued and taken to hospital where doctors declared him dead.
