Siliguri, Sept. 13 -- Workers of the closed Madhu Tea Estate near Hasimara in West Bengal's Alipurduar district have renewed their movement demanding action against the management and payment of their long-pending dues.

The workers' agitation began on May 18 last year, following which the management issued a suspension-of-work notice and left the garden. Since then, the workers and their families have been facing severe hardship.

Their hopes were renewed after Minister of State for Home and Hill Affairs Bishal Lama recently met tea workers and assured them that the government would take appropriate steps in their interest. The workers have now decided to intensify their agitation from Monday.
