Siliguri, Sept. 10 -- The flood situation in West Bengal's Malda worsened on Thursday as the rising Ganga inundated fresh areas in Ratua-I block, while fresh erosion was reported from Khaskol under Milki gram panchayat in English Bazar block, leaving thousands of people in vulnerable areas facing sleepless nights.
According to the Irrigation Department, the Ganga was flowing at 26.05 metres at Manikchak Ghat by Thursday noon, around 75 cm above the extreme danger level of 25.30 metres.
The river has been rising following a huge volume of water flowing downstream from Bihar towards Manikchak Ghat and the Farakka Barrage.
Several areas of Kahala in Ratua-I have been inundated, affecting thousands of people.
