Kolkata, Sept. 14 -- The Congress stepped up its organisational activity in Murshidabad on Monday, with senior leaders from the party's central and state leadership travelling to Berhampore city for the filing of nomination papers by its candidate for the Rejinagar Assembly by-election.
The presence of senior All India Congress Committee (AICC) leaders for a by-election nomination programme is being viewed as unusual and politically significant within the party. A sizeable Congress delegation travelled from Kolkata to Berhampore to accompany Mohammed Abdullahi Kafi, the party's candidate for the Rejinagar seat and the newly appointed president of the Congress's Murshidabad organisational district.
