Kolkata, June 21 -- West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Sunday welcomed the Kolkata Municipal Corporation's (KMC) decision to rename Suhrawardy Avenue, a major road in Kolkata's Park Circus area, as Gopal Mukherjee Road, describing the move as a long-overdue correction of a historical wrong.
The KMC approved the renaming proposal on Saturday during its observance of Paschimbanga Divas (West Bengal State Day), triggering political discussion over the historical significance of the decision and the personalities associated with the two names.
