Kolkata, July 14 -- West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday launched Aranya Saptah 2026, a week-long statewide afforestation campaign, announcing an ambitious target of planting and nurturing 1.10 crore tree saplings across the state as part of the national 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' (A tree in the name of mother) initiative.

The Chief Minister inaugurated the programme at Central Park in Salt Lake, marking the start of Forest Week, which will be observed from July 14 to 20. Forest and Environment Minister Manoj Kumar Oraon, Minister of State for Forests and Environment Dibakar Gharami, Principal Secretary (Forests) Manish Jain and senior officials attended the inaugural ceremony.
