Kolkata, May 30 -- A Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team on Saturday served a notice to Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee asking him to appear for questioning in connection with the ongoing probe into the alleged forgery of signatures on a letter submitted to the West Bengal Assembly.

The four-member CID team first reached Banerjee's residence, "Shantiniketan", on Harish Mukherjee Road around noon. However, the TMC MP was not present at the location then.

The officers subsequently proceeded to his Kalighat residence, where they served him the notice. Speaking to reporters later, Banerjee said he had not yet gone through its contents and would consult his legal team before taking further steps.
