Kolkata, July 9 -- The West Bengal Police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has been entrusted with the investigation into the police encounter in Baruipur, located in South 24 Parganas district, in which Prabhas Mondal, one of the accused in the rape and murder of a minor girl, was killed late on Tuesday night.
Several political parties, including the Left Front and Congress, expressed their concerns about encounter issues. The decision comes even as a judicial inquiry, mandatory in cases involving police encounters, has already been initiated.
