Siliguri, Aug. 3 -- West Bengal Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Minister Agnimitra Paul on Monday refrained from commenting on author Taslima Nasrin's call for the introduction of a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Bangladesh and Pakistan, but said the writer has consistently spoken out against religious persecution and discrimination.

Responding to questions from mediapersons in Siliguri, Paul said she would not comment on the internal affairs of other countries. However, she noted that Taslima, who hails from Bangladesh, has every right to express her views on issues concerning her homeland.
