Midnapore, Sept. 11 -- Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee's personal assistant Sumit Roy was remanded in eight-day CID custody on Friday by the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court in Midnapore in connection with the alleged illegal conversion and sale of government land in Salboni through purportedly forged documents.

Roy was produced before Chief Judicial Magistrate Atanu Mondol after undergoing a medical examination at the state-run SSKM Hospital in Kolkata earlier in the day.

Seeking Roy's custody, the CID requested an eight-day remand to question him regarding the alleged illegal government land transactions. After hearing both sides, the magistrate granted the investigating agency eight days' custody, a senior prosecutor said....
