Chandigarh, Oct. 9 -- The parole plea of Jagtar Singh Hawara, serving a life sentence for the 1995 assassination of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, has returned to the spotlight amid reports that he could be allowed a six-hour release to meet his ailing mother, although no fresh order granting such relief has been officially confirmed.

Hawara, currently lodged in Delhi's Mandoli jail, has been seeking temporary release on humanitarian grounds to visit his mother, whose deteriorating health has prompted appeals from his family and political leaders.
