Hyderabad, April 15 -- Rajya Sabha Member and National BC Welfare Association president R. Krishnaiah on Wednesday said a sub-quota for Backward Class (BC) women under the Women's Reservation Bill can be achieved only after the introduction of a separate BC Bill in Parliament.

Speaking to the media, the BJP MP said efforts are underway to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to press for the Bill, adding that the PM had responded positively to the proposal in a recent meeting.

Krishnaiah termed the Women's Reservation Bill a historic step, but stressed that BCs continue to remain underrepresented in politics despite decades since Independence.
