Bhopal, May 28 -- Internationally acclaimed Urdu poet and writer Padma Shri Bashir Badr passed away at his home in Bhopal on Thursday.
Bashir Badr, widely regarded as one of the foremost voices of the modern ghazal, was 91. He had been suffering from a prolonged illness and dementia in recent years. His death has triggered widespread grief in literary circles across India and abroad.
Widely admired for his lyrical simplicity and emotional depth, he helped bring contemporary resonance to the ghazal form.
