Chennai, May 25 -- A massive fire broke out in a oil godown in Chennai's northern suburb of Manali on Monday, resulting in hundreds of barrels exploding and flying up to a height of about 50 to 60 m, as thick smoke engulfed the area.
Police and fire service and rescue department officials said, so far no casualties were reported.
The godown, located at Manali Pudhunagar in North Chennai, which has the capacity to stock one lakh litres of oil, has hundreds of small and large barrels with oils stored in it.
The cause of the fire was being ascertained and several thousand litres of oil stored in the barrels were destroyed in the blaze.
