Kalaburagi, Aug. 5 -- Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge on Wednesday said the Bankipur Assembly bypoll had sent a clear message that political parties cannot take voters for granted, accusing the BJP of displaying "arrogance" by making disparaging remarks about the electorate during the campaign.

Taking a swipe at the BJP, Kharge referred to a reported statement by senior party leader Ravi Shankar Prasad that "even a dog or a cat" fielded by the BJP would win the seat.

"They disrespected the electorate and humiliated the voters on national television. The people have shown what Janata Janardan means. The result is a reminder that no political party should underestimate the wisdom of the voters," he told reporters.
