Amroha, Dec. 12 -- A Bangladeshi woman, Reena Begum, and her husband, Rashid Ali, were taken into custody in Mandi Dhanaura after police discovered they had been living in the area illegally, officials confirmed on Friday.
The couple was detained following a tip-off, prompting both police and intelligence officials to launch an inquiry on Thursday.
During the operation, officials recovered a marriage certificate, which revealed that the couple had married in Saudi Arabia a few years ago. According to their statements, Reena entered India with Rashid via Nepal in October 2025.
Police have filed an FIR against Reena under the Foreigners Act, while Rashid has been booked for harboring an illegal immigrant.
