Dhaka, Sept. 9 -- Bangladesh's official death toll from the ongoing measles outbreak and suspected measles-related illnesses has crossed the grim 1,000 threshold, with three more deaths being reported in the last 24 hours on Wednesday, according to data by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The combined death toll now stands at 1,002, including 100 laboratory-confirmed measles deaths and 902 deaths among patients with measles-like symptoms.

The DGHS recorded 1,188 new cases of measles or measles-like illness during the latest 24-hour period, taking the total number of cases recorded since March 15 to around 187,000.
