Bengaluru, Jan. 5 -- The Ballari violence has taken a serious turn with the arrest of private gunmen and recovery of bullet fragments near the residence of BJP MLA Gali Janardhana Reddy, even as a court on Monday remanded 26 accused to judicial custody in connection with the riot and firing incidents.
The developments have triggered sharp political reactions, with opposition leaders demanding a CBI probe and alleging grave lapses in law and order.
Police said the accused were produced before the 42nd People's Representative Court in connection with two FIRs - one relating to rioting and the other to the murder of a Congress worker who died during firing on the night of January 1. Four of the accused have sought bail.
