Sitapur, Sept. 23 -- After spending 23 months in jail, senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan's release was unexpectedly delayed today morning due to a last-minute legal complication.

Khan was scheduled to walk out of Sitapur jail at 9am, where his elder son Adeeb Khan, accompanied by around 150 supporters, had arrived early in anticipation of his release.

However, during the paperwork process, it was discovered that Khan had not paid a court-imposed fine related to an ongoing case in Rampur.

According to sources, the fine amounted to Rs 3,000 and Rs 5,000 under two different sections of the case. The court in Rampur was expected to open at 10am.

A release order could only be issued when the fine is deposited and faxed to Sitapur jail....
