Canberra, April 15 -- Australia has signed a deal with its Asian neighbor, Brunei to boost fertiliser supplies to farmers at a time when the sector continues to be hit by the ongoing fuel crisis.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, during his second stop on a tour of Asia, announced that Australia and Brunei had signed a Joint Statement on Energy and Food Security, aimed at increasing the flow of fertiliser from Brunei into Australia.

Australia currently imports about 11 per cent of its fertiliser and 9 per cent of its diesel from Brunei, a small but strategically important Southeast Asian nation. Albanese described the agreement as mutually beneficial for both countries.
