Ranchi, June 27 -- union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale on Saturday highlighted the Centre's welfare initiatives and reaffirmed the government's commitment to social justice, economic development and empowerment during his visit to Jharkhand.

Addressing a press conference after a meeting with officials of the state Social Welfare Department at the State Guest House here, Athawale said the Constitution drafted by Dr B.R. Ambedkar remained the foundation of India's unity and democracy.

He also referred to the teachings of Lord Buddha, saying they continued to promote peace, equality and humanity across the world.
