London, June 20 -- At least one person has been killed and 89 others injured after two trains collided north of London on Friday, British officials said.
More than 80 people were injured in the collision near Bedford in southern England, according to the British Transport Police, which said officers responded to the crash in the market town located about 56 miles north of the capital.
The East of England Ambulance Service confirmed that at least one person died in the incident. Of the 89 injured, 11 sustained "very serious injuries," 22 were seriously injured, and 56 suffered minor injuries.
British Transport Police Chief Constable Lucy D'Orsi said on Saturday that 28 people remained hospitalised, including nine in critical condition.
