Aizawl, June 15 -- The Indian Army's Assam Regiment on Monday celebrated its 85th Raising Day in Mizoram for the first time, with serving and retired soldiers, veterans and their families gathering in Aizawl to honour the regiment's distinguished military legacy and remember its fallen heroes.

The celebration began with a wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial in Treasury Square before shifting to Vanapa Hall for a day-long programme attended by former Assam Regiment personnel, Assam Rifles officers and members of the Mizoram Ex-Servicemen League (MESL).

Among those present were MESL president and MLA Lt. Col. Clement Lalhmingthanga and Brig. Pushpender Sorayan, DIG of the 23 Sector Headquarters, Assam Rifles.
