Guwahati, Sept. 2 -- The Assam police have intensified its vigil around the Goalpara district in western Assam following a visit of a delegation of Jamiat Ulama-I- Hind to the district.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said this on his X handle today, adding that the police and district administration are on alert to ensure that public order is maintained.

"A delegation of the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind is currently visiting Goalpara district, Assam. Considering the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) elections and the sensitive situation in the district, the state police will continue to maintain strict monitoring to ensure peace and stability".
