Kolkata, Aug. 27 -- Asserting that his government was determined to strengthen and modernise the police force, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday said he has directed officials concerned to expedite the recruitment process for approximately 43,000 vacant posts of cops.

"Approximately 43,000 vacant posts across Kolkata Police and West Bengal Police will be filled in phases. Instructions have been issued to the Police Recruitment Board to be more proactive regarding recruitment and training," Adhikari said while addressing a programme at the city police headquarters Lalbazar.

He also announced the recruitment of 200 personnel for Civil Defence.
