Bengaluru, July 2 -- Escalating the political fallout from the Bengaluru quarry disaster that has claimed eight lives, Karnataka Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka on Thursday demanded Rs 50 lakh compensation for each bereaved family and accused the Congress government of "criminal negligence" in allowing unsafe quarrying operations to continue.
After visiting injured workers at the hospital, Ashoka alleged that repeated warnings over illegal and unsafe quarrying had gone unheeded, turning the fatal accident into a "man-made tragedy" rather than an unavoidable mishap.
