Itanagar, July 12 -- In a landmark development, the people of Riga village in Siang district have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, pledging unconditional support for the conduct of survey and drilling works required for the preparation of the Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR) of the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP)-declared a national project by the Government of India in 2008.

Described as "a step taken in larger national interest", the MoU was signed during a meeting held on Friday afternoon in the presence of Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Rural Development Minister Ojing Tasing, and Chief Secretary Manish Kumar Gupta, a statement from the CMO stated on Saturday.
