Kolkata, June 5 -- Arrested Trinamool Congress leader Swarup Biswas, the brother of former West Bengal Minister Aroop Biswas, was on Friday remanded to police custody till June 18 by a lower court.

The ex-president of the Federation of Cine Technicians and Workers of Eastern India was presented before the Alipore Court under stringent security during the day.

The TMC leader's counsel pleaded for bail, but the judge rejected it.

Cases involving multiple non-bailable offences have been registered against Biswas based on a complaint filed by a makeup artist. The charges include extortion, molestation, indecent behaviour towards women, criminal intimidation, attempted murder and violations of the Arms Act.
