Jamshedpur, June 26 -- A live mortar shell unearthed during ploughing in Sonpokhri village of Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district was safely destroyed by an Army bomb disposal team on Friday, bringing relief to panic-stricken villagers.
The disposal operation was carried out at around 3.15 pm by an Army team from Ranchi led by Lt Col Dharmendra Singh.
Police said the Army followed all standard safety procedures before carrying out the controlled detonation. The area was cordoned off by personnel of the CRPF and local police to ensure public safety. No casualties or damage to property were reported.
