Islamabad, April 12 -- Chairperson of the Arif Habib Consortium said efforts are underway for expanding the fleet of Pakistan's national airline carrier - Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) - to 60 aircraft, as the carrier undergoes full privatisation and dramatic restructuring to improve its efficiency, competitiveness, and generate greater revenue.
Arif Habib, chairperson of the group, said the airline currently operates with significant limitations, with only 18 of its 30 aircraft currently being operational, while several others remain grounded pending repairs.
As such, work is in progress to restore five to six aircraft, raising the inventory of the active fleet to around 26 in the near term.
