New Delhi, April 10 -- A day after Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi flew a sortie on the indigenous Light Combat Helicopter Prachand, the AH-64 Apache attack helicopter carried out its first field firing, at Pokhran Field Firing Ranges in Rajasthan on Friday.

During the operational demonstration, the indigenous chopper successfully engaging targets with Hellfire missiles and other onboard weapons.

Earlier, Dwivedi undertook the sortie at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Bengaluru. According to a statement issued by the Army spokesperson, the move was aimed to reinforce Indian Army's focus on strengthening close air support for ground operations, a critical element in modern warfare.
