Vijayawada, Nov. 10 -- The Andhra Pradesh government has appealed to the Central team to extend generous support, stating that cyclone Montha caused extensive damage far beyond initial expectations across the state.

The Andhra Pradesh Government has estimated the cyclone's total loss at Rs 6,384 crore and the state has sought immediate interim assistance of Rs 901.4 crore from the Centre.

An eight-member Central team, led by Pasumibasu, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, and Dr. K. Ponnuswamy, Director, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, arrived in the state to assess the damage caused by the cyclone.
