Visakhapatnam, June 1 -- The South Coast Railway Zone (SCoR) started functioning on Monday in Visakhapatnam. Visakhapatnam is the headquarters of the new railway zone.
Railway officials said that the SCoR is the Indian Railways' 18th Zone. The new railway zone started functioning today temporarily from the VMRDA, the deck building in Siripuram. It will continue to function from there till the construction of the permanent office building is completed.
The South Coast Railway zone's commencement is the result of a gazette notification issued on May 4, 2026, which set June 1, 2026 as the effective date. Railway officials said that the new zone will oversee four divisions, including Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntakal and Guntur. Sandip Madh...
