Vijayawada, March 10 -- The HPV vaccination programme to prevent Cervical Cancer has begun in 10 districts of Andhra Pradesh for girls below 14 years of age, Health and Family Welfare Commissioner G Veerapandyan said.

In a press release issued here on Monday, Veerapandyan stated that the Human Papillomavirus vaccination programme is being implemented across the country to prevent cervical cancer. Free vaccination was launched in 10 districts on Monday and will be launched in the remaining districts on Tuesday.

He said the vaccination drive began in Konaseema, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Prakasam, Palnadu, Sri Sathya Sai, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, and West Godavari on Monday, and about 1,500 girls were vaccinated on the first day.
