Vijayawada, April 2 -- A festive atmosphere prevailed in the villages located in the Amaravati capital region as the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha passed the AP Reorganisation (Amendment) bill, officially declaring Amaravati as the state's permanent capital.

A large number of people, especially the farmers, who had given their lands for the construction of the capital city Amaravati, put up lights in front of their houses to celebrate the Diwali festival at Uddandarayunipalem, Thullur, Venkatapalem, Undavalli and other villages. People were seen distributing sweets, exchanging pleasantries for success and lighting firecrackers.
