Visakhapatnam, June 8 -- In one of the worst industrial mishaps, 9 workers were killed and 14 others injured at the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (Visakhapatnam Steel Plant) here on Monday. Official sources confirmed the death of 9 workers.
The accident took place as a large quantity of molten steel/iron spilled at the plant's Steel Melt Shop (SMS-2) and associated facilities in the evening when many workers were at the unit. The union leaders of VSP alleged that the indifference of the management led to the accident. They charged that the maintenance of the machinery was ignored. The management was yet to respond and give a detailed explanation.
