Dharamshala, April 25 -- Former Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Shanta Kumar has criticized the anti-defection law, stating that it has failed to fulfill the purpose for which it was originally enacted.
He remarked that the spirit behind introducing the law in India has not been upheld in its current implementation.
Drawing an analogy, he said that under the present system, if theft occurs in a single house, the thief is punished, but if the entire house is looted, no action is taken.
He pointed out that despite defections involving multiple legislators, no action is being taken against Members of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha.
Shanta Kumar further expressed concern over the declining standards of politics in the country.
