Kolkata, June 3 -- The disbursal of financial assistance under the Annapurna Yojana formally began on Wednesday., with the government transferring funds directly into the bank accounts of 28,25,769 beneficiaries, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said.

Adhikari was speaking at the state secretariat Nabanna regarding the first phase of direct bank transfers with regard to the Annapurna Yojana scheme.

The transfer was carried out in the presence of Cabinet ministers Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Nisith Pramanik, Kshudiram Tudu and Ashok Kirtania, marking the formal rollout of a flagship welfare programme of the state government.

Under the financial assistance scheme for women, eligible beneficiaries will receive Rs 3,000 every month.
