Nagpur, Aug. 5 -- : NCP (SP) leader and former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Wednesday alleged that the Centre had influenced the Maharashtra Governor's decision to grant sanction to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to prosecute him in the alleged Rs 100-crore money laundering case.
Addressing reporters, Deshmukh claimed the Governor's approval was politically motivated and questioned the independence of the decision, alleging that the BJP-led Central government was using investigative agencies to target Opposition leaders.
Maintaining his innocence, Deshmukh said the case was based on "false and fabricated" allegations levelled by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh in 2021.
