London, July 20 -- Labour MP Andy Burnham today officially become the UK's 59th Prime Minister after being invited by King Charles III to form a government during a private audience at Buckingham Palace, following the resignation of Keir Starmer, whose departure from office was formally accepted by the King.
In a statement here, Buckingham Palace said, "Sir Keir Starmer MP had an audience of The King this morning and tendered his resignation as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury, which His Majesty was graciously pleased to accept. Lady Starmer was also received by The King."Starmer and his wife, Lady Victoria Starmer, left Buckingham Palace privately after the meeting, in keeping with tradition.
