New York, Sept. 7 -- Mirra Andreeva completed a dramatic comeback against Anastasia Potapova to reach the US Open quarterfinals, but the defining moment of the contest came when her compatriot crumpled to the court with an apparent knee injury just as the match was slipping away.
The French Open champion recovered from losing the opening set 5-7 to beat Potapova 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 in a gripping fourth-round contest here on Monday.
Potapova had looked the stronger player early on, attacking Andreeva's second serve and repeatedly forcing the 19-year-old onto the defensive. But Andreeva gradually found her range, levelled the match and moved 5-3 ahead in the deciding set.
