New York, Aug. 26 -- Fifth seed Mirra Andreeva of Russia made a resounding start to her US Open campaign today IST, demolishing American Alycia Parks 6-0, 6-1 in the women's singles first round.

The 18-year-old, returning from an ankle injury that had sidelined her since Wimbledon, took just 55 minutes to overpower Parks under lights at Louis Armstrong Stadium. Andreeva broke serve repeatedly with her sharp returns and consistency, while Parks faltered with 28 unforced errors against the Russian's five.

"I was very nervous going into this match, but I'm happy with how I dealt with the pressure. First rounds are always tricky, so I'm pleased with my level," Andreeva said after the match.
