Chennai, June 22 -- The toll in yesterday's ammonia gas leak tragedy at seafood processing and export facility near Periyapalayam in Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu rose to five on Monday, while 67 workers are undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals with several of them on ventilator and oxygen support.
A bulletin from the Health and Family Welfare department said a total of 74 persons were affected by the leak that occurred at the facility located in the Kannigaipair-Manjangaranai area.
While two deaths had been reported till 8 pm on Sunday night, as of 7.00 AM today three additional deaths were reported taking the number of fatalities to five so far, it said.
Two persons have since been discharged, it said.
