Bhubaneswar, June 22 -- The death toll of Odia workers in the tragic ammonia gas leak incident at a seafood export unit at Kannigaipair near Periyapalayam in Tamil Nadu's Tiruvallur district has risen to five.
Odisha Labour Minister Ganesh Ram Singhkhuntia said five women workers from Keonjhar district lost their lives in the incident, while several others have been hospitalised following exposure to the leaked gas.
According to the Minister, two workers died on June 21 and three more succumbed on June 22.
The deceased have been identified as Jimani Jiwang (19), Geetha Jiwang, Bhumiya Jiwang (22), Sibani (22), and Phulomani Juanga, all residents of Keonjhar district in Odisha.
