New Delhi/Ranchi, June 9 -- union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday paid tributes to tribal icon and freedom fighter Birsa Munda on his martyrdom day, describing him as an enduring symbol of tribal self-respect, patriotism and cultural consciousness.

In a post on social media platform X, Shah said Birsa Munda had sounded the bugle of freedom against British rule through the historic Ulgulan movement and united tribal communities to protect their rights and heritage.

He said Birsa Munda transformed the protection of "Jal, Jungle aur Zameen" into a mass movement and inspired tribal society to safeguard its identity and traditions.
